What Has SP Done?
SP pledged to plant more flora around the campus, reduce its environmental impact such as carbon footprint and conserving resources and educate students in SP about environemntal sustainability. And SP certainly has kept its word.
Firstly, SP has 4 Green Mark Platinum Buildings which certifies that the builing has climate responsive designs such as using glass materials that do not easily absorb heat from the Sun and high indoor environment quality such as the air quality for better health and wellbeing, for instance. SP is also already on its way to attempt to certify all its 22 buildings by 2025 to make the whole campus environmentally conscious.
Next, SP is home to a wide plethora of plants of about 230 species, featuring its Brown Woolly Fig Heritage Trees located near Food Court 1.
SP also has prohibited the use of plastic bottled water in its events and encourages students and staff to use the many 110+ water dispensers located uniformly around the campus for easy access. This will greatly reduce the number of plastic usage and cultivate environmentally friendly habits into students and staffs.
Smart sensors, such as movement sensors in toilets, are implemented in SP's toilets to detect and only turn on the lights when a person is in the toilet. This saves plenty of electrical costs and reduces redudant usage of electricity.
All air conditioners in SP are also kept at a minimum temperature of 25°C to reduce electricity and water usage, lowering its carbon footprint.
SP takes part in nation-wide activities such as the recent SG Clean Day whereby 1000 SP students volunteered to clean-up the F1 Pit Building on 13 May 2023.
Last but not least, Common Core Modules such as Thinking Critically About Our UNSDGs educates students on sustainable solutions for real-life issues such as the SG Green Plan.
